Hull City’s inability to finish off teams has been their biggest problem, according to defender Curtis Davies.

The club were looking certainties for promotion through the automatic places a few months ago. However, their form has nosedived spectacularly and manager Steve Bruce recently admitted that the automatic promotion spots were out of reach. The club will now look to gain momentum before the play-offs begin. Form rather than quality is seen as the biggest factor in winning the play-offs. Despite having an experienced defender like Davies, the club has struggled to keep off opponents.

Davies’ comments came in wake of a 2-2 draw with Leeds United. Hull City appeared to be in a comfortable position and heading for three points, but they were pegged back by a late equaliser by Dallas. The result meant that Hull City are without a clean sheet in the last five games. Furthermore, they have allowed the opposition to score twice or more in three out of those games. Defensive performances are leading down the team, but Davies reckons that the team need not conceded late goals if they finish off the opponents much earlier. Davies admitted that their club are regretting their huge downfall in the last six weeks.

The club can now only hope that they get lucky in the play-offs.”There’s massive regrets. We know we were there or thereabouts six weeks ago. You look at Boro, where we lost 1-0 in the 93rd minute (on March 18) and now they’ve gone 10 points clear of us.It’s frustrating but we’ve only got ourselves to blame. Everyone else has kept their momentum going and kept up their form. When they’ve had bad patches, they’ve come back from it.Now we have to deal with the situation we’re in and make sure we’re ready for these play-offs,” said Davies.
